Meeting Summary
September 10, 2024, 6 pm 

Attendees:  Kathy Woods, Jack Harrison,  Michael Smith, Stephanie Knapp, Kyle Addison(Zoom), Erin Brady, Sandy Fredrick, Charles Fredrick, , Donna Galloway, Bob Blanke

 Devotion : Charles Frederick –
“Unity”  scripture reference John 17:20-21 and Ephesians 4:3

Minutes from August 2024 BOS meeting were approved.

Council of Ministries Working Team Report –Donna Galloway

  • Missions needs to fill  positions for the upcoming year.  Also looking for volunteers for the Sunday morning coffee program.
  • Ad Hoc team continues to work on updates to church literature, website, etc.  for board to review.  Team will update board at October meeting.
  • Upcoming events (repost from August, 2024 BOS meeting):

September 22nd from 3-5pm in the Fellowship Hall – Presentation from authors Betty Baldwin and Phoebe Kilby discussing their book Cousins: Connected Through Slavery, A Black Woman and a White Woman Discover Their Past and Each Other.

October 14–17 – Bus trip to Washington D.C. to visit the Church and Society Building and the Creation Justice Ministries building.  More details to follow.

November – National Native American Heritage Month.  More details to follow. 

September– Jim Tolbert with the Caretakers for God’s Creation Ministry team are planning a week for the congregation to focus on the importance of transitioning our energy use to electric power and reducing our carbon footprint.  Possibly the last week of September.  More details to follow.

Finance Working Team Report – Charles Frederick

  • Charles reviewed the August financial report and pledges.
  • Signature cards have been updated.
  • Charles reviewed the upcoming Stewardship campaign.  Important Stewardship dates are below:

October 4th:  Stewardship letters are sent out.

October 13th:  Guest speaker:  Rev. A.J. Thomas

October 2th:  Campaign continues.

October 27th:  Commitment Sunday.

SPRC Working Team Report- Erin Brady

  • Erin updated the group on the music director and accompanist positions. 
  • Reviewed feedback from the choir.

Trustees Working Team Report – Bob Blanke

  • Reviewed trustee’s budget.
  • The newsletter will have a call out for the maintenance team .
  • The Trustees Working Team continues to update guidelines for the use of church property and facilities for the board to consider.  
  • The Church bus is in the repair shop.

Pastors Report – Joe Tarpley

  • Reviewed annual charge conference guidelines.
  • Nominations team is working to fill upcoming positions.
  • November 12 – Board of Stewards Meeting/Charge Conference.

Other Items

  • Feedback from September 8th One Service was positive.
  • Discussed ATSP.  Members can link Ingles Advantage Card to ATSP.
  • Unanimously approved Board of Stewards Covenant.  
  • Motion:  Remove from the Guiding Principles under voting the sentence, “The Chairperson can only vote to break a tie or in a situation requiring the 2/3 supermajority”. Passed.
