Position Title: Organ and Piano Accompanist
Position Summary: We are seeking a part-time skilled organist and piano accompanist to join our worship staff. This position will support our worship services through music, providing accompaniment for congregational singing, choir performances, and other special musical performances.
Supervision: This position reports to and is supervised by the senior pastor
Responsibilities:
- Provide accompaniment by playing the organ and/or piano to accompany congregational hymns, choir anthems, soloists, and other musicians during worship services.
- Select appropriate musical pieces in collaboration with the music director or worship leader and prepare adequately for services.
- Availability to attend rehearsals and services, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Actively participate in rehearsals with the choir, soloists, and other musicians as needed.
- Provide music for special services including holidays and other church services upon request.
- Collaborate with the music director, worship team, and other musicians to enhance the overall musical experience during worship.
- Provide or assist in arranging accompaniment for funerals, memorial services, and weddings on organ/piano as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in playing both the organ and piano, with a strong ability to sight-read music and learn new pieces efficiently. Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate varying musical styles and preferences.
- Familiarity with a variety of musical styles, including traditional hymns, contemporary worship songs, and classical music.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other musicians and church leaders.
- Adhere to Safe Sanctuary policies if present around children at SUMC
- Respectful, Punctual, Pleasant, and Courteous Passion for worship and a commitment to enhancing the spiritual experience of the congregation through music.
- Organizational skills to manage music selections, rehearsals, and scheduling effectively.
