POSITION TITLE: DIRECTOR OF MUSIC / ACCOMPANIST FOR TRADITIONAL WORSHIP
Duties and Responsibilities: (as of May 2023)
● Report directly to the Senior Pastor
● Music Ministry
o Direct and simultaneously accompany Chancel Choir on piano and/or organ.
o Direct Handbell Choirs (this functional makeup changes each year with influx of participants, basically
providing ringing opportunities for ages 3 grade -adult))
▪ Skyland Ringers (adult)
▪ Joy Bells (youth 7-12 grade)
▪ Children’s Chimes (3rd-6th grade)
o Direct Children’s Choir(s) and offer other youth/child music programming.
o Supervise and collaborate with Music Ministry volunteers who help on a weekly basis.
o Organize, rehearse, and direct orchestral groups for special large works with various choirs.
o Encourage, direct, and accompany solo and ensemble musicians (both vocal and instrumental) for
special services and seasons (e.g. Ash Wednesday, Tenebrae, Christmas Eve, etc) and weekly worship
▪ Explore the youth/adult instrumental resources found in our congregation to offer an orchestral
Sunday with Intergenerational focus when enough participants are interested.
▪ Offer special music programs like piano duo concert and/or piano & organ duo concert.
o Author worship service liturgies, prayers, and musical settings for worship events as needed.
o Coordinate regular tuning and maintenance of organ and 4 pianos.
o Coordinate regular maintenance, cleaning, and repair of four handbell octaves, one four octave set of
chimes, and two three octave sets of chimes.
o In conjunction with pastoral and education staff, plan weekly worship music and assist drafting and
reviewing bulletins.
o Attend staff meetings and worship planning meetings and keep regular office hours.
o Prepare and maintain Music Ministry Budget
o Act as staff representative on Worship Committee
o Accompany funerals, memorial services, and weddings on organ/piano as needed.
o Provide music support for other staff and programs as needed.
● Weekly Worship
o Traditional Service (11:00 am)
▪ Play all related worship music (organ and piano)
▪ Direct and accompany Chancel Choir
▪ Provide staff support to worship leaders.
o Current Service (9:00 am)
▪ Occasionally play with praise band/lead worship on a substitute basis - as needed and as other
service duties allow.
▪ Periodically lead Bell/Chime/Youth choirs during Contemporary Service
Minimum Qualifications:
All staff must pass a background check and drug screen.
A committed believer who sets a Christian example in the performance of assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in music
Experience Directing comprehensive church music programs including chancel choir, children’s music programming,
handbell, and chime programs.
Ability to accompany (on piano and/or organ) and simultaneously direct choirs, solo and ensemble musicians.
Organizational skills to manage and maintain pianos, organ, handbells, chimes, and other musical instruments.
Organizational skills to manage and maintain accurate records of musical presentations to include all copyright and legal
requirements.
Organizational skills to maintain all relevant subscriptions and copyright permissions for music programming.
Ability to recruit and maintain volunteers for various music program activities.
Ability to collaborate and coordinate with church staff, choir, musicians, and others.
Ability to coordinate music programs for children and youth.
Reporting Relationships:
• The incumbent reports to Senior Pastor
• The incumbent is employed by Skyland United Methodist Church and is ultimately responsible to the Staff-Parish
committee relative to job performance and related matters.

POSITION TITLE: NURSERY COORDINATOR
Summary:
The Nursery Coordinator oversees all aspects of the church Nursery, caring for children ages birth to 4 years, working with both paid staff and volunteers. Reports to the Assistant Director of Children's Ministries.
It is expected this assignment will include approximately 6 hours per week as a Nursery Care Staff worker and up to an additional 4 hours per week as Nursery Coordinator. Sunday morning and Wednesday evening availability will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Care for children ages birth to 4 years during scheduled Nursery hours (Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and special events and services).
- Oversee all aspects of the Nursery Care Staff, including scheduling work hours, time sheets, maintaining staff CPR / First Aid Certifications, background checks, and Safe Sanctuary training. Ensure staff members are following Safe Sanctuary Policy.
- Oversee recruiting, training, and scheduling of volunteers.
- Maintain volunteer background check records. Provide Safe Sanctuary Policy to volunteers and assist in training when needed.
- Work closely with church groups and staff to ensure nursery care is available when needed.
- Plan weekly curriculum for Toddler Nursery.
- Maintain and acquire Nursery supplies and equipment. keep equipment and toys cleaned on a weekly basis.
- Maintain records: Sign-in sheets, parental contact information, attendance. Communicate with Financial Secretary to adhere to Nursery budget.
- When possible, attend bi-monthly Staff prayer meetings (Tuesday mornings). Occasionally invited to attend staff meeting retreats to share ideas and socialize with staff members.

- The incumbent reports to the Assistant Director of Children's Ministries, who supervises the scope of duties described herein and who provides ongoing counsel relative to job performance.
- The incumbent is employed by Skyland United Methodist Church and is ultimately responsible to the staff-parish committee relative to job performance and related matters.
- The incumbent will schedule and supervise paid Nursery Care Staff, as well as volunteers.

POSITION TITLE: NURSERY CARE STAFF WORKER
Summary:
The Nursery Care Staff Worker cares for children ages birth to 4 years, working with both paid staff and volunteers. Reports to the Nursery Coordinator or Assistant Director of Children's Ministries.
It is expected this assignment may include approximately 6 hours per week. Hours per week will be based on scheduling, events, and program attendance. Sunday morning and Wednesday evening availability will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Care for children ages birth to 4 years during scheduled Nursery hours (Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and special events and services).
- Oversee play, reading, feeding, snack, diaper changing.
- Greet parents and children with warmth and friendliness. Be courteous toward volunteers.
- Set up and clean-up of Nursery rooms during childcare times.
- Communicate any problems to the Nursery Coordinator.
