Skyland United Methodist Church

Position Title:  Communications and Marketing Coordinator Job Description 

 Position Summary: 

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator (hereinafter CM Coordinator) serves to output information to the congregation of and community surrounding Skyland United Methodist Church. The CM Coordinator manages web communication, internal communication, social media presence, outreach marketing, and assists with printed communication. 

Principally, the purpose of this role is to help tell our stories through various forms of media and provide expertise on effective communication of ministry-specific messages.  The CM Coordinator works along with the Communication Committee and Pastor to form the Creative Team overseeing and strategizing about church-wide communication. 

Supervision: 

This position reports to the senior pastor with supervision being provided by the senior pastor.  Position is part-time, 20 hours per week, with the majority of those hours worked onsite. 

 Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate communication planning and specifics with the communication committee team and chair to ensure outreach and strategies are consistent with overall Church mission and needs. 
  • Participate in Skyland’s staff meetings and communication committee meetings. 
  • Oversee content and perform ongoing maintenance and monthly review of the website for outdated information/broken links/etc. 
  • Create engaging content for various media platforms including social media, website, newsletters, slides and church communications. 
  • Research and locate targeted marketing areas on behalf of Skyland United Methodist Church and make recommendations for marketing campaigns. 
  • Manage and maintain social media presence on behalf of Skyland United Methodist Church (SUMC) including content creation, scheduling, monitoring and engagement.  Ensure that SUMC stays current and relevant with how social media can be utilized. 
  • Upload weekly sermon recordings to media platforms and maintain website calendar. 
  • Consult with ministry leaders and groups with web page updates, blogs, and the use of other social media, as required. 
  • Support church administration with advertisements, calendars, and event registration as needed. 
  • Create slides for colonnade, early service and late service and digital sign postings. 
  • Liaise with IT contractor as needed for all staff. 
  • Maintain consistency across communication to support church mission statement of LOVE, GROW, SERVE 
  • Create weekly electronic E-newsletter in Constant Contact and collaborate with administrative assistant to maintain communication distribution list.  Newsletters should also be formatted to be printable. 
  • Design and produce seasonal Program Guides for various ministries.
  • Responsible for email blasts as needed.
  • Prepare special media projects in support of church events 
  • Event fliers, posters, tickets, invitations, brochures etc. 

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficient in website operations, including theme changes 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Publisher, Power point
  • Proficient in Constant Contact (email marketing) 
  • Proficient in Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) 
  • Ability to set and adhere to deadlines 
  • Project management skills 
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 
  • Highly detailed and organized 
  • Adhere to Safe Sanctuary policies if presence around children at SUMC
  • Respectful, Punctual, Pleasant, and Courteous
