Jason Gilmer began work as our Communication Coordinator in August 2026. He has worked for decades in the field of communications, mostly as a writer. He worked full-time as a reporter with the Spartanburg Herald-Journal before transitioning to a stay-at-home dad and freelance writer. He won multiple state and national awards for his writing.

Along with his work at Skyland UMC, Jason works as the Director of Programming for the Asheville Tennis Association and still writes for other organizations. His second book, “Barefoot Prophet: The Search for Meaning in Jimmy Buffett’s Life and Music,” which he cowrote with a friend, will be released in May 2027 by UGA Press.

Jason has been a member at Skyland UMC for several years, along with his wife, Summer. Both of their children, Cato and Ansley, are proud graduates of Around the Son Preschool.
